In my kitchen

Previously an old factory 'A' frame ladder...
Transformed into a home for my jars of herbs, spices, baking trays, platters, pots, and pans.

I have a thing for apothecary bottles..

Another Camberwell Market purchase from a few years ago. JD constructed the timber planks for extra shelving. This has been super handy but not sure if it should stay in the kitchen or be ebayed away?

I still love it, as it was the one of the first pieces of 'make shift' furniture we bought for our flat and I really don't want to part with it, just yet... Oh, I don't think I'll ever have a 'grown up' home!!

Phillip Island treasures

Phillip Island was really nice and relaxing. Surprisingly the sun did make an appearance. Running out of town amidst a ripped up kitchen is not the smartest idea but JD's bosses organized a weekend getaway to treat the employees, and their partners & children. Very thoughtful and generous.

As always I took the opportunity to scourer the op shops and found a fabulous antique store and nabbed some great things:

This thick woolly yellow houndstooth fabric which goes cheerfully with the Ink & Spindle fabric I got from the Melbourne Design Market a couple weekends go.

We also stopped off at the local trash n treasure market where I found this cute milk glass bud vase, which JD thought was hideous. However I paid the stall vendor when he had his back turned, and laughed pretty hard when he discovered it had made its way home with us, "Arrrgh, you bought the ugly pimply vase?!"

I also got some pretty vintage dresses and super cute wee sized kiddie chairs, which I'll eventually photograph and post.

Slowly re-vamping the kitchen...

I feel it will be long and arduous task. It's been 14 days since JD pulled out the old oven and still no cooking facilities except the microwave & balcony BBQ. Arrggh!

Along with the new oven, we have decided to give the kitchen a little revamp. We've opted to keep the existing 1950's style white cupboards. Although before we install the new oven we'll be replacing the tiles, tapware, benchtops, new range hood plus stain the floors in the entire house. Which means packing up everything and moving it to various storage areas eg. my mums, JD's parents, a friends garage.

At least the old brown tiles came off today, although not difficult, half off them above the sink were voluntarily coming off anyway.

Brown tiles be GONE!
Excuse the odd product placement but this was the only close up pic of the tiles before we ripped them off - by the way locally made Cunliffe & Waters preserves and jam are delicious!

Kitchen ramblings:
Me: "So I'm thinking clean, simple lines, uncluttered... Hmmm, rustic white slash industrial?"
JD: Scoffs rather loudly "Uncluttered?! You are the biggest hoarder ever, I don't think so!

I know I have no discipline and will never stick to an all white neutral kitchen. Random nicnacs of colour will creep in and find a home there on the shelves and benches..

Please note, you are viewing the DIY work of some major slackers. Fast turnover of before & after pics are very unlikely to be seen any time soon.

Loitering about the town..

I decided to head to the Melbourne Design Market at Fed Square today. It was crazy busy! Most of the exhibitors/stall holders I have seen at the Life Instyle Fairs but I made some cool new discoveries. I bought some cute fabric from Ink & Spindle which I think I'll frame or make a cushion with.

From there I went Lost & Found Market on Smith St and drooled over this danish dining table & chairs in the window.

The chair upholstery was a lovely neutral soft wool

Sorry about the crap camera phone photos

Also stopped by Industria on Gertrude St where I contemplated buying some super cute mini chairs for the children I am yet to have. I came close to convincing myself that maybe I can find another use for them in the interim.. Step aerobics?

Next Dimmey's in Richmond, which to much sadness is closing after 150 years. I bought a couple of meters of this plastic faux crochet table runner which I may it use for gift wrapping, or some weird suspended installation thing when Christmas creeps up again.. Or perhaps just use it for its intended purpose..

Plastic fantastic!

For lunch I dragged my hung over friend out of bed to meet me for coffee and light lunch at Bosistos in Bridge Rd, Richmond.

It was a lovely way to spend a lazy Sunday.

Trash n Treasure Telephone Table

Today I drove past a trash n treasure sign and at the last minute u-turned thinking "Hmm, yeah why not, you never know.."

I'm mildy impressed by my camera phone photography
JD has swiped my camera for his trip

Check out this cutie I stumbled across for only $7!! The peacock vinyl is looking abit sad on the corners, maybe needs little revamping. I also got a cool industrial style drafting stool for $6 which is still rolling around in the car.

Hoorah to some colour...

Lovely vintage light weight dress made of 100% Thai cotton but well lined. I had to hand sew the hemline up, but went a wee shorter than I had intended.. Tsk, tsk, tsk, oh when will I ever learn?

Well then good bye for now, see you again in Summer..

Collecting: Vintage paintings

Catherine of Little Glowing Lights reminded me of my abandoned project of collecting vintage oil paintings. Well, maybe not abandoned, but put on hold until all my walls have been painted. Here's the two I found at various op shops..

Still not too sure about this one but I think it may suit my eventual white subway tiled kitchen.
Perhaps sitting above a nesting of white ceramics and nearby some old french bread boards?

Not sure where this one will go.. Perhaps in the hall when I find some more friends for it to reside with.

Dirrrrty mug @ Urban Outfitters

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when I saw Urban Outfitters "dirty" mug.

It takes back to a time I'd rather forget, when I was a receptionist picking up the filthy and often caked on mouldy mugs of my feral colleagues!. And yes, I was the poor sucker that had to wash them.. Bastards!
