back to it

Hello folks,
Hope you all had a nice and relaxing Easter break? Thankfully due to the shorten weeks I've had a chance to recover from my sugar induced coma and now in a somewhat more productive state.
Oh with exception to being fixated to the TV to watch the royal wedding on Friday night, now it's back to pulling on the paint overalls and into the lounge room.

happenings

:: baked my first cheesecake (banana!)
:: started a succulent garden
:: dinner, drinks and key of the sea album launch in St Kilda - boogieing past my bed time to the cat empire
:: kicked off my summer workout with a leisurely bike ride (note to self : leave the scarf and cardi at home when riding along side hardcore lycra cyclists)
:: cooked a Sunday roast inspired by stephanie alexander & masterchef - adding a broad bean mint and feta salad (note to self: broad beans are fiddlely)

I love this fresh light living room - beautifully edited with a hint of aqua, navy nauticals and nice texture.

sofa love

I know I have gone on and on about velvet sofas, chairs and the like, but here's another one.. Beautiful mid century shape, ample size, cute buttoning, ribbed lines. Oh yes and throw in the lovely jewel coloured cushions too. Don't worry, I will shut up about them eventually...
Perhaps the day I get ever one.

all my loving

via design sponge

Apologies for the lack of posts, the absence has made my heart grow fonder. So many lame excuses; it has been really frantic at work... I've been feeling pretty cruddy with a cold. Alas must soldier on!

Umm so hello beautiful home!! I've declared for my love for drift wood timber floating shelves before but this could actually work in my lounge room - they make ugly speakers look not so hideous. Beautiful arrangements every where.

small space style

I love the little pops of yellow and green, and lovely pressed white metal in the hall.
I love small spaces with style. I relate to it more because let's be honest that sprawling beach house villa or loft warehouse apartment doesn't look like it's happening anytime soon.. I need to show some restraint and be more thoughtful about the furniture I have. Need to assess what actually works in the space and not just lump it in here.

I wish..

we had built in shelves like this in our home.

Sorry Image source unknown

Dang it, we'll have to just settle and make do with our Ikea Lack floating shelves....

Oh I have visions of myself on this couch on a Sunday morning with the papers sprawled everywhere, sipping a cup of tea..

coffee table

We bought an old wooden plank from Richmond Relics (now Ridgey Didge) industrial furniture store in Melbourne 8 years ago, even before we bought our flat.
Apparently it was use as platform to assist people on and off train back in the day.. Hmmm, I never know whether to believe these stories told by second hand dealers, for all we know they could be complete bulls**t, but it is a quaint story to tell our visitors. Either way we thought it was cool and would make a great coffee table.

We considered putting big fat castor wheels on it..
But the eventual plan is to weld a metal frame to elevate it, sorta something like this:

In the meanwhile I thought I could make it work it like this..

But our couches are higher and leaning down that low for our cup of teas was getting annoying...

Luckily we've befriended a welder who is a has offered to help. By posting about it will now bring an onslaught of nagging JD and our poor friend. Hopefully a pic of the finished table won't be too far away!
