last night

I saw Florence & the Machine with a not so new friend - it was my first individual outing with a friends girlfriend. She's such a sweetheart, it was really nice to catch up and talk outside the usual group environment.
Florence was incredible - her energy and voice was so captivating.

suddenly summery

Whoa. Where has the week gone?
I've been a tad neglectful of blogging. The Melbourne weather has been too nice and the last couple few weeks I've stuck to my new years 'resolutions' and have been swimming after work.

I mustn't be very goal orientated as I don't count my laps. Instead I distract myself by getting songs in my head to stop me from piking and going home early. Harmony to my Heart Beat by Sally Seltmann has been doing the the rounds (or shall I say laps) with me. It's so up beat and summery. Little bro got me onto this one.

home again

Arrh, I had a lovely time in Queenscliff.
It rained, rained, and rained on Saturday but we ran the short distance to the festival to catch Little Birdy and then the Wailers.
On Sunday the sun came out and we saw Bertie Blackman, Bonjah, Whitley (again!) and Tim Finn.
We always start the Music Festival hopeful but always struggle to get through even half of the musicians we intend to see. Oh well there's always next year!

my happy place

Weird but it's in my car on a Friday morning listening to the Triple J's like a version segment.
So many talented artists have performed amazing covers and that has had me beaming in smiles or covered in goose bumps. Sometimes both.

Megan Washington's cover of Sublime's Santeria did not make this years compilation and neither did Metrics cover of the Strokes the End has no end. None the less it will still make my Christmas wish list solely on Ben Harpers cover of David Bowies Under Pressure.

come fly with me

Flying Birds by Naomi Murrell

Had a horrid start to the day. Lost my cool.. not good.

A big hug from the boy and these sweet flock of birds from Naomi Murrell squeezed a much needed smile out of me. Oh flying Birds why don't you come fly under my Christmas tree?

Looking forward to Whitley tonight..

eels

JD bought the new Eels album, Hombre Lobo a few weeks ago and it's been on high rotation in the car.
No matter how good a mood I'm in, no matter what's happening around me, even with the spring sun beaming and warm air breezing through the windows, my heart aches when That Look You Give That Guy comes on... painfully beautiful.

the lovely Ms Blasko

Marked in my calender is Sarah Blasko at the Forum on 2nd of October. I will be surprising my darling friend G for her birthday.

She's done a lovely cover of Xanadu. I am yet to work out how to upload videos - Argh, constant error messages!

I had the wonderful pleasure of seeing her at the Queenscliff Music Festival a few years ago. I have been to the QMF almost every year since I was a rag bag teen. I recall that particular year had a pretty amazing line up; Emiliana Torrini, Ash Grunwald, Claire Bowditch...
