the weekend

On the weekend I completed my very own black bunting cushion. And oh yeah mastered zips! Previously I did the pillowcase fold. Feeling rather proud of myself I may make a couple more. Alas JD will argue that we do not need any more cushions!

I kept to my frugalness and stayed in with a friend on Saturday night. We made pad thai and watched a teeny popper reality tv box set dvd which I think has turned my brain to mush.

Today I went to Spotlight, I came across the Martha Stewart craft range. Craft heaven. "Walk away, just walk away" I coached myself. Luckily, I left with only a couple of zips other bits which didn't brake the bank, a few things to keep me preoccupied for my self imposed weekend house arrest.

here's to a non eventful weekend

Well for me anyways.
All those summer spurges have caught up to me. No more shopping, must be frugal. Big plans for the year ahead. With some luck I'll be completing some unfinished projects. Go for a swim. Or stare blankly at our trashed spare room in desperate need of re-organising.

love at second sight

by Kat Macleod from the Heide

Often when I should be working (cleaning, cooking, or running out the door to meet someone) I do quick blog surf - just to get my fix. I come across things that I adore but don't fully appreciate properly until I stumble across it a second time. This was the case when I first saw this gorgeous limited edition Kat Macleod tea cup set on the Design Files but then again in todays the Age Melbourne magazine. Isn't purdy?

office space envy

I want my home office to look like this.
No ugly printer. No ugly cable cords. No paperwork everywhere.
Yeah, dream on.

suddenly summery

Whoa. Where has the week gone?
I've been a tad neglectful of blogging. The Melbourne weather has been too nice and the last couple few weeks I've stuck to my new years 'resolutions' and have been swimming after work.

I mustn't be very goal orientated as I don't count my laps. Instead I distract myself by getting songs in my head to stop me from piking and going home early. Harmony to my Heart Beat by Sally Seltmann has been doing the the rounds (or shall I say laps) with me. It's so up beat and summery. Little bro got me onto this one.

typography love

A new addition to my growing collection of letters. This one is made of metal and was quite well price considering most industrial stores would have charged triple for it. I also bought a big letter U, yet I'm still to decide where to put it. I think this love is spiraling dangerously out of control.

the weekend: 500 days of summer

images via all movie photo

On the weekend JD and I watched 500 Days of Summer. I've wanted to watch it for a while now but previously when suggested, it was met with over exaggerated groans and winging "arrrrrrrh not a chick flick". I think he rather enjoyed it. What can I say great soundtrack, cute cast, cute wardobes, ultra cute apartments, cute movie.

a day at the market

I found a couple more dust collectors at the market today.
I promise the little elephant is alot cuter in person. Anything to stop JD dumping coins everywhere around the house is a bonus. Seriously, how cool is the letter holder? Ships ahoy!!!

They now live on the beaten up green chest of drawers I bought from ebay over a year ago. I remember begging JD to come to collect it with me from the scary neighbourhood. Arh, the things you do..
The lady had actually painted it green and changed the handles - the handles, I'm not totally in love with. The wall is a work in progress, I think this is where I'll eventually hang my vintage paintings.

kitchen owls

Slowly putting things back in their place in the kitchen and re-arranging some other things, as you do.

I've been easing back into the cooking despite the hot weather we've had in Melbourne lately. I made Bill's marinated lamb with chickpea salad. I over did it with the garam masala but it was still nice. From his same book, I made the apple and dried cherry almond loaf which weighs about 1kg.

I went to the market during the week and bought way too many zucchini's, so I made lots of zucchini slice. It's been nice eating it cold for lunch at work. Yes, back at work now..

a new year to do better

As another year pasts a time to reflect on things I want to do better:

:: Plan more short day trips with love ones
:: Enjoy simple things :: like lying on the grass
:: Look after myself :: go to the darn dentist, exercise, get health care
:: Don't be so hard on the guy :: you're not the easiest person to live with
:: Re-connect friends who I still think about but should make time for
:: See, eat, smell, walk in this beautiful city I'm blessed to live in
:: Learn guitar :: I've always wanted to but now should because my beloved has spoilt me with an acoustic for Christmas
:: Be productive :: I love you blogworld but you kill me with hours of procrastination
:: Set the date to become Mr & Mrs :: plan a honeymoon!

a cute share house

I had to take a snap of the hand towel... cause it made me smile.

Yesterday, I caught up with an old work friend and visited the house she shares with two early 'twenty-something' year old lads.

What was incredibly sweet was that they all contributed in making this rental house their lovely home: adorable type written notes, vintage match boxes for visitors to pick and take home with them, an impressive vegie patch, (her housie was tending to the garden with Outkast blaring on the stereo - cute!) They do communal trips to op-shops, the Camberwell trash n treasure market and the Queen Vic fruit n veg market. It made me miss the student life that I never had...

During the house tour I pointed out the Missoni hand towel in the bathroom. My friend quotes one of her male housies "Gee, you must really like that hand towel, you're always putting it back in place.." Ha, ha cute!

happy happy holidays

Happy New Year! Hope you've had a fantastic Christmas holiday break!

Shortly after Christmas JD and I packed our bags and headed down the beach, to Angelsea with his family. We spent days lazying on the beach. We cooked big breakfasts and bbqs. The weather was perfection, I even managed to get a little colour on my pastey white legs.

For New Years Eve, we went from coast to country. From staying at a newly renovated holiday house with ocean views to driving across inland to beautiful lush green historic Daylesford. Friends rented a grand weatherboard cottage furnished with antiques and chesterfield lounges.

We drank and ate a ridiculous spread of delicious food as storms and thunderstorms rolled in. Silly drinking games and a little dancing as we bid farewell to 2009 and welcomed the New Year. The following day some of us looked a little haggered in the hour mini bus ride to the Hanging Rock New Years day country race meet. Yay, I even tipped a winner!

The above images are a hens (bachelorette) celebration from Utterly Engaged - Isn't it the sweetest? Not a tacky 'bride to be' sash, veil or plastic penis in sight! Found via Once Wed. Major tepee love: more cuteness here!
